Alessia Smaniotto coordinates R&D projects for OpenEdition, an infrastructure dedicated to open access scholarly communication in the humanities and social sciences. She is citizen science officer within the coordination team of OPERAS infrastructure, and member of the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA). She coordinated the European project COESO that developed the VERA platform.

Graduated in philosophy, journalism and sociology, she holds a PhD in philosophy of social sciences from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. Before reinvesting her skills in research and research communication, she was a journalist for public and private media in Italy.
